What: Flesh & Buns Fitzrovia

In a nutshell: Popular izakaya supersized

Summing it all up: Covent Garden's Flesh & Buns is opening a second restaurant just north of Oxford Street and this one's going to be huge with more of a Peruvian Nikkei vibe going on as well as the old izakaya favourites.

 

The low-down

There's a ginormous Flesh & Buns opening up just north of Oxford Street this summer. Here's what you need to know about it:

The sequel is WAY bigger than the original

There's going to be room for 170 diners all on one floor.

Fans of the first will find favourite dishes on the menu

Never fear, Flesh & Buns' Crispy Piglet Belly with Pickled Apple will be served as well as their S’mores

But they're also introducing new things

Expect a new ceviche and tiradito offering - we're keen to try the shellfish ceviche featuring whelks and cockles or maybe the plaice tiradito with truffle ponzu and yuzu tobiko.

Owner Ross has a new wood smoker and he's not afraid to use it

One such dish will be the chilli-miso smoked brisket with chipotle miso BBQ sauce and pickled red chillies which does sound rather good.

The smoked meats will come with baos

Order dishes like that brisket or maybe the Shichimi and Sansho Pepper Jerked Duck with Coal Roasted Peach Chutney and you'll get a basket of freshly-steamed bao buns to stuff all that lovely meat into.

It's not all meat - there's loads of local seafood too

Ross is working with British fishermen to buy in top quality seafood - so expect to find tempura place and prawn toban yaki on the menu here.

If you fancy booking for a party, this is the place

The semi-private dining room for up to 18 diners gives you a space of your own, but keeps you in the thick of the action. There's also room here for a separate bar and if you prefer to be right in the heart of the action, book a counter dining seat up at the open kitchen.

There will be a Press for Piscos button

Actually, this is really all you need to know. Press the button and a trolley will be wheeled to your table where Nikkei-inspired piscos like Matcha or Hakuto Pisco will be made in front of you.
