What: The Belrose
In a nutshell: Beer and pizza, Belsize Park-style
Summing it all up: Whether you’re after brunch, lunch, pizza or charcuterie, the Belrose should have you covered. And while you wait for your food, you may as well quaff a pint of their homemade IPA in their south-facing beer garden…
The low-down
The genteel neighbourhood of Belsize Park is getting a swish new boozer that’s billed itself as a “modern take on a British pub”. They’ll be tempting in locals with an Italian menu that includes pizza cooked in their clay oven, a house IPA made in their on-site microbrewery, and a beer garden where you can enjoy it all. It'll be moving into the former premises of The Hill Bar and Kitchen.
Some of the food on offer includes:
- Tuscan sausage with Stichelton pizza
- Prosciutto, pecorino, tomato, smoked anchovy and roasted pepper pizza
- Ribeye tagliata with rocket and smoked sea salt
- Tagliatelle with oxtail ragu
You can also sample a selection of charcuterie with cheeses, including highly enticing roasted formaggio with smoked paprika, and burrata with blood orange. There’ll be roasts on Sundays too, and at weekends, an all-day brunch menu.
First and foremost though, the Belrose is a pub, so it’s reassuring to see they’ve got a very well-stocked bar. On top of their house IPA, there’ll be natural wines, including a Clarete Rosé from La Palma, and imported beer, many of which “are exclusive to The Belrose in the UK” - so keep your eyes peeled for more unusual tipples. That’s on top of bottles of Spanish Cervezas Alhambra, Tegernsee Hell from Bavaria and Cuban Palma Crystal.
Perfect for keeping you cool in their south facing, 40-cover garden.
