What: Wood St Coffee
In a nutshell: Coffee, coffee and more coffee - plus smashed avocado and homemade granola.
Summing it all up: Walthamstow gets a taste of Melbourne’s brunch culture with Wood St Coffee, which will have rotating speciality toasters, pastries from Hackney Wick’s Artisan Bakery and something we rather like the sound of called the Breakfast Stack…
The low-down
Aussie cafe culture comes greatly respected in the UK, attributed with bringing us such joys as the flat white, avocado with everything, and a healthy appreciation for speciality blends. Now there’ll be another place to rely on for your fix, now Wood St Coffee has swapped four years of pop ups for a permanent residence in Walthamstow.
Their new home, a purpose-built space, sounds sure to be a hit with local freelancers, as well as coffee buffs who’ll be able to try their rotating roasters, including Dark Arts, Counter Roastery and Modern Standard.
There’ll be a longer food menu too. That’ll include smashed avocados on toast, naturally, and pastries from Hackney Wick’s Artisan Bakery, as well as granola bars and brownies made in house. There’ll also be sourdough cheese toasties, and soups. However we reckon you’d do well to get yourself a ‘Breakfast Stack’, heaped with halloumi, potato cake, poached egg and tomatoes, and which begs the question - why don’t more foods come as a stack?
