On the one hand this is a trad bank holiday but it also happens to include the 5th of May - or should we say Cinco de Mayo? So in addition to all the usual fun foodies things going on, there are a lot of specifically Mexican-related festivities to choose from too. Here's how to spend the May bank holiday weekend well in London.
White City - Bluebird Café White City kicks off the bank holiday weekend on their terrace with a Friday Fiesta. Enjoy live music from 6pm, Mexican-inspired snacks and accompanying Patrón fruity cocktails.
Liverpool Street - Gary Rhodes returns to cook in the UK for the first time in over 10 years with his friend, the Devonshire Club's Executive Chef Adam Gray. Dinner starts with a reception of Champagne and Kings caviar before dining at their restaurant Number Five. Tickets are £110.
London Bridge - Santo Remedio are putting on their Mexican Margarita bottomless brunch. The £45 brunch includes unlimited Margaritas, bubbles or beer along with two courses from the menu including their amazing guacamole with tortilla chips (and optional grasshoppers) and a Mexican burger with chorizo, chipotle ketchup and jalapeño mayo.
Covent Garden - US movie star Mark Wahlberg is in town to launch his first UK branch of Wahlburgers. He'll be doing a red carpet meet and greet from 6pm.
Victoria - Boomerang TV are putting on the UK’s first ever ‘First Mates’ diner for dogs at M Victoria in London. Tickets for the brunch are £12 and allow entrance for one dog and two humans, with all proceeds from ticket sales donated to Wild at Heart Foundation.
London Fields - Head to the London Fields Arches where New York City's Craft Hospitality are putting on the Margarita Rumble, pitting top bars and mixologists against each other to find the UK’s best tequila cocktail. There'll be 15 specially curated bars & restaurants - choose from one of three free-flowing sessions and chef James Cochran will be running the food side of things.
Bloomsbury - The Coral Room has teamed up with George Clooney's former tequila brand Casamigos for a Sunday evening fiesta from 6pm until late and enjoy a list of exclusive cocktails alongside a live Latin inspired DJ set.
Mayfair - COYA are putting on a one-off Mexican-inspired fiesta brunch. There'll be bottomless slushy Pisco Sours and Bloody Marias, Latino tunes from the DJ and live acts.
Mayfair - Don Julio are partnering with Ella Canta for a special brunch with paired cocktails on Saturday and Sunday. The three-course menu will feature an array of Mexican brunch dishes with each course paired with a Don Julio cocktail.
Smithfield - Copita Club is taking over Oriole for one night with Casamigos tequila serving up a selection of authentic and classic Mexican cocktails. There'll also be complimentary sharing cocktails for those with table tickets, music from the Voodoo Love Orchestra and DJ, Dom Servini of Wah Wah Records on the decks.
Stoke Newington - DJ Ari Houmous and friends are bringing their Shakshuka Sunday brunch party to Fanny's Bar and Kebabs for Cinco de Mayo. It'll be a day of Mexican inspired Shakshuka, bottomless tequila cocktails and live music featuring DJ Complexion from 2pm till late. Tickets start at £30.
Hackney - Bulleit Frontier Whiskey is hosting an all you can eat extravaganza, Whiskey & Wings Banquet at Clutch Chicken. Things kick off with Iced Tea before an all you can eat a selection of internationally inspired wings served alongside a complementing Bulleit Whiskey Sours. Tickets are £35.
Kensington, Shoreditch, King's Cross, Carnaby and Covent Garden - Dishoom launches its new breakfast menu today. So if you want to be first to try their Double Bacon Naan or some of the new vegan dishes, better get in that queue nice and early.
Hackney - Night Tales Summer Terrace reopens in time for the bank holiday from Thursday to Saturday. There'll be live music and street food from Nanny Bills, Mama Jerk and Sons Of Slice.
King's Cross - Gin Under The Canopy runs from 3-5 May taking over the Canopy Market with a line up of eight British Gin distilleries. There'll be tastings, masterclasses and an interactive ‘Pimp Up Your Gin’ station.
Lewisham - Street Feast’s Lewisham hangout Model Market reopens with six new traders from Friday to Sunday including James Cochran serving jerk-spiced goat in coconut flatbreads and meat-free dim sum from Phung Kay Vegan.
