Now that spring is officially here and the clocks have gone forward, the next thing that happens here at Hot Dinners HQ is the arrival of a deluge of press releases announcing the opening of terraces and alfresco spaces across London. The only problem is that the British weather often doesn't seem to understand that spring has indeed sprung. So we were officially intrigued by upcoming Fitzrovia restaurant Out and In which is promising to introduce Londoners to the joys of faux fresco.

"Forget al desk, or al fresco, faux fresco is where it's at in 2024," they say. If, like us, you're wondering what that means in practice, well they're creating a room in the restaurant that looks and feels like you're outdoors when you're not. The restaurant's 'terrace' will in fact be a fully immersive space with sky and views projected on the walls and ceiling.

There'll be wind machines to simulate a gentle breeze, a soundtrack of cars and other urban noise to help with the illusion and the temperature will drop in the evenings to allow customers to don the requisite fur rugs for warmth. Best of all, this is somewhere that will never be affected by a sudden downpour.

It hardly seems important what food they're serving, but it turns out Out and In will be another smashed burger experience with a firm emphasis on hard shakes and cocktails too.
