27/9/23 - updated with the opening date
If you've been wondering what's going to take over the old Bright space in Netil House then we have the story for you. It's been bought by James Dye - the co-owner of Frank’s Café in Peckham and The Camberwell Arms. He's opening it as Bambi which is being described as a music-led wine bar and restaurant.
The name isn't a nod to Disney but a homage to James’ great-grandmother and running the kitchen will be chef Henry Freestone, who previously won a Bib Gourmand for his work over at Peckham Cellars.
Music is going to be a key part of the bar and for that, they're adding a vintage sound system, record shelves and DJ booth at the back of the room. Charlie Dark MBE has been in charge of curating the record collection.
We've had a gander at the opening menu which is promising a mix of snacks and larger plates. Dishes will include:
- Cauliflower cheese arancini
- Braised butterbeans, kale, goat curd
- Chicken parm ciabatta with vodka marinara, pickles and aioli
- Apple crumble sundae
The restaurant will be open for coffee and sandwiches during the day, switching to a more wine-led vibe in the evenings. Speaking of wine, the list here will focus on natural, low-intervention wines and if you love what you try you can always buy a bottle to take home with you. There will be cocktails too, including a Babi Martini and a frozen tequila coffee cocktail.
