Mystic Burek gets a permanent home in Sydenham

Springing to life over the lockdown, Spasia Dinkovski's Mystic Burek (once Mystic Börek but now using the Balkan spelling), quickly became a massive hit. Spasia served up North Macedonian-style böreks - flaky dough pies - using recipes from her grandmother's recipe book, cooking from home and selling via Instagram. Hugely popular and constantly selling out, she also appeared at pop-ups as varied as Four Legs' The Plimsoll, Peckham Cellars and Albie at The Hoxton.

Now, she's getting ready to set up a permanent space in Sydenham. There, she'll be serving up filo pies, dips, desserts, Balkan snacks and regular specials. Recent böreks have included "Taleggio, Truffled Slow Cooked Greens & Pickled Peppers" and "Bulgarian White Cheese, Lamiri Harrisa Butter & Wild Garlic" so you can expect some pretty great things from here.

Alongside filter coffee, tea and soft drinks, it'll be BYOB and she's teaming up with 161 Food and Drink around the corner where you'll be able to pre-order some natural wines. The catering and whole pie deliveries will continue as well.

As for the shop itself, there will be room for 16 inside, with benches outside too (and you can, of course, take away). Look out for special events coming in the future, when it'll open for dinner too - as Spasia calls it, "An all-round celebration of second-generation Balkan cooking."

It's great news for Sydenham locals, but we think this will also be one worth crossing town for.
