A very different kind of British/Irish restaurant has just opened its door in Chelsea that's aiming straight for the luxury end of the London dining scene. BÓHA London has taken over the old Chelsea Lodge site on the King's Road with its restaurant and soon-to-open cocktail bar.
Behind the scenes are a founding team that includes several folk from the drinks business like Jay Bradley CEO of The Craft Irish Whiskey Co and Harvey Armstrong, and Sam Holmes who run Prime Time Lager. They've brought in chef Anthony Fletcher who was most recently running things at The Ned and whose food consultancy was responsible for all the food in the royal box at Wimbledon for years. He's joined by head chef Samuel McClurkin whose background is working for the likes of The Sportsman, Le Manoir and the Hand and Flowers.
Irish beef is a big part of the menu, in dishes like Wagyu short rib Irish stew, Irish chocolate fed Wagyu tomahawk and an Irish whiskey marinated, charcoal-cooked Irish Hanger Steak. There's also a strong Irish influence in dishes like the Kerrs Pink potato carpaccio, served with old Winchester custard and pickled shallot, and hispi cabbage in-house dry aged bacon and beef dripping. And any take on an affogato that includes Five Farms Irish cream has our blessing.
Getting ready to open downstairs from the restaurant is the 1920s-style Shibeen cocktail bar. Options there include:
- Spiced Old Fashioned, made tableside with a rare single malt called The Taoscán – the tonka bean, clove, star anise, cinnamon, and cardamom are all torched in front of guests
- Mon Cheri - made with Le Portier Cognac, Azaline Saffron Vermouth, vanilla, cherry, and Lustau Oloroso Sherry
- My Little Dear - a mix of Tanqueray No.10 infused with peach stones, peach, RinQuinQuin, lemon, and English sparkling wine
If all goes well with the London opening, the team here are hoping to take the BÓHA brand to Miami, Dubai and New York.
