Mare Street Market open a huge new space at King’s Cross

8/7/24 - updated with the opening date

Five years after it first opened in Hackney, Mare Street Market is opening a second home, across town in North London. Founder Marc Francis-Baum is hoping to have similar success with the concept in King's Cross.

Mare Street Market King's Cross sees them taking over a huge space on Lewis Cubitt Square just north of Coal Drops Yard and next to the newly-opened Lightroom art space. They'll be covering three floors of a new building, giving them almost double the space they currently have in London Fields.

After radio silence for over a year, the new market has now somewhat surprisingly launched with little fanfare. It looks like there's only one main restaurant on site, with the main offerings being pizza and dishes from the coal oven.  Of the former, there are options like Courgette & fennel sausage or Pepperoni & hot honey alongside the more traditional offerings. Whereas from the oven, there are dishes like spice-rubbed pork ribs or smoked rump of lamb. They['ll be open all day, so you'll also be able to get breakfast and brunch here, with a lobster roll and waffles with maple syrup available then.  Former Gordon Ramsay chef Mark Sargeant has had a hand in the food offering, helping to craft the menu here.

As for drinks, expect a mix of cocktails and beer, and a pretty strong low/no alcohol range. On top of that, the site will have a tattooist, barber, bookshop, jewellery and more.
