It's big in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham and now Albert's Schloss is coming to London.
Somewhat understatedly billed as a "bier + pleasure palace", it's taking over what used to be the Rainforest Cafe on Shaftesbury Avenue, more recently home to Jungle Cave. It's a location that's not been home to the most illustrious of London's food scene to date, but maybe that's about to change.
It's a big old space fitting in around 600 people and they've apparently spent £7 million on it, part of the big revamp that's happening to The Trocadero.
If you've not been to An Albert's Schloss, before this is essentially going to be a Bavarian beer hall as well as an Alpine-inspired food from the Cook Haus. So we're not straying too far from this site's history of themed venues. For beer, unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell is the main draw and they'll be bringing in "push for Pilsner" buttons - a somewhat more affordable version of the push for Champagne buttons seen elsewhere.
As for food, there will be lots of schnitzels, including a Cordon Bleu schnitzel with Gruyère, prosciutto, wild mushrooms and brandy sauce. Alongside those are bratwurst, sharing fondues and more. They'll also be open for breakfast, with the main dish being their Bacon Kroissant - a house-made croissant, slow-cooked onions, gouda, Burford Brown fried egg, crispy shallots, chives and curry ketchup.
It's coming from the group who recently launched Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana, and the other venues have been pretty big successes.
This is not the only new beer hall in central London either, as Bierschenke opened in Covent Garden last year. That'll have almost a year head start on Albert's Schloss, so we'll have to wait to see what this newcomer brings to the table.
