Beer battle is on as Bierschenke are opening opposite new Guinness Brewery in Covent Garden

20/6/23 - updated with the opening date

Now, this is the kind of showdown we like to see. There's obviously been a lot of hype about the new £70m Guinness Brewery opening in Covent Garden. So it takes a considerable amount of cojones for another brewery to go, 'Do you know what? That site right opposite looks just perfect for us.'

That's the decision made by German beer hall company Bierschenke, who are taking on the old Belgo site almost opposite the massive new Guinness development. Their other London site in the City closed last year when the building was being redeveloped, so the opening of this new West End space will be the only place you can enjoy their Munich Beer Hall-style experience.

It's a big space and perfect for a beer hall with old vaulted brick ceilings. Food-wise they serve up the kind of thing any Oktoberfest fan will be familiar with - bratwurst with mash and sauerkraut, flammkuchen, currywurst, spaetzle and schnitzel. They have three beers on draft by the pint and stein and a wide variety of schnapps. Essentially it's going to be a great party place.
