Notting Hill’s Kuro Coffee to open a new "Eatery", bakery and wine bar

Updated 18/10/22 with opening date

The Japanese-minimalist vibe of Notting Hill’s Kuro Coffee is capitalising on its popularity in the neighbourhood with the launch of a new Kuro Eatery restaurant and a Kuro Bakery.

It's an expansion of their existing offering on the corner of Hillgate Street, where Kuto Eatery will serve 30 covers for all-day dining, and Kuro Bakery will take over the current Kuro Kiosk space, which currently sells independent magazines.

The chefs behind the ventures have some serious cred, including Andrianos Poulis (formerly of Cornerstone in Hackney and Greek restaurant Mazi in Notting Hill) and Nicolas Ruty, a third-generation French baker (previously Bakery Manager at Boulangerie de Paris London and Head Baker at The Savoy).

With the same streamlined feel that Kuro is renowned for, the restaurant will tap into Head Chef Poulis’ Greek heritage, featuring seasonal dishes with a strong Mediterranean influence, such as:

  • Tomatoes, sujuk oil, onions, burrata and pangrattato;
  • Spaghettoni, clams and bottarga;
  • Beetroot, walnut sugar, Oporto and cashew cream; and
  • Oysters, tomato ferment and oregano.

Kuro Bakery will not only produce freshly baked sourdough and pastries, but in keeping with Kuro’s Japanese-inspired ethos it will serve Shokupan: a soft and fluffy traditional Japanese milk bread. Powered by a full-production kitchen (located in the former Purplebone dog grooming site behind the kiosk), they’ll also aim to sell baked goods to other West London businesses.

And if that wasn’t enough of a shake-up for Kuro, the original spot will also morph into an aperitif/wine bar in the evenings, where you can snuggle up in blankets on their little outdoor heated terrace to discuss your energy bills over a pre-dinner drink.

Stay tuned for further developments in 2023, including beehives and vegetable beds on the Kuro rooftops to create produce for the kitchen and bakery.
