A South African steakhouse from Australia is the latest international restaurant group to set its sights on London - and Mayfair in particular. The Meat & Wine Co is the brainchild of founder Bradley Michael, who took inspiration from his home in South Africa to bring braai-cooked steaks and amazing wines to the folks of Australia. They have opened previously in London - in Westfield to be specific - but this looks like being a much more upmarket affair than that.
As you might imagine, it's a carnivore's delight of a menu with bone marrow burgers, wagyu skewers and - of course - a lot of steak. The London restaurant will focus on three meat suppliers, Hereford grass-fed beef from Scotland, Angus x Hereford from Northern Ireland and grain-fed wagyu from Jack's Creek in Australia.
There's also an Aged section of the menu where you can choose from rib-eye cured in beef-dripping butter, traditional dry-aged and a massive tomahawk option. Even desserts have a meaty option in the Layered Wagyu Fat Delice.
But there will be plenty for both pescatarians and vegetarians to try too from Celeriac Risotto with pressed rice crisps to Kingfish Ceviche with garlic crème fraîche.
The wine list for the UK restaurant is pretty punchy including a glass of Tignanelllo Antinori for £56 or a bottle of 2001 Petrus for £9600. But there are slightly less Mayfair options too like a £36 bottle of Pete's Pure Shiraz from Australia.
