Ikea is coming to Oxford Street, meatballs included

Ikea meatballs Oxford Circus

18/3/25 - Updated with a confirmed opening date

If you've been anywhere near Oxford Circus in the past year or so, you will have seen the massive Ikea that's taking shape there in the former Top Shop space (as well as their Ikea bag pop-up shop). Now, after all the wait, we're getting closer to it all actually opening.

Of course, all of this is good news for anyone who fancies getting on a bus home with a huge box of flat-packed Billy bookcases (or attempting to get them on the tube. It will make a big difference to Londoners who don't fancy having to trek out to the Brent Cross Ikea or anywhere else that is nowhere near a tube station.

While it will be very handy indeed to easily restock on Ikea tumblers, there's only one thing we really want to know - will there be meatballs? The answer is yes with a "Swedish deli" opening on the lower-gound floor which will apparently have room for 130 people. So there will be space for a lot of people to get as many meatballs, chips and lingonberry sauce as they can possibly handle. With their hot dogs costing only 75p even here at Oxford Circus, this will be a very handy and affordable refuelling stop.

At the opening, we can see this being a little bit busy, mind. Think the queue for the restaurant in the big Ikeas can get bad? Wait until this one opens.
