Over lockdown, Netil Market's Pollo Feliz did a roaring trade in deliveries with East Londoners becoming more than slightly obsessed by their tortillas. So much so, that they've been able to expand with a bigger stall and a new direction. As first reported by Eater, they've become Sonora Taqueria.
Sonora, as they explain, is "a taquería and tortillería focused exclusively on northern Mexican food and handmade flour tortillas...Pollo Feliz led us to this, but lockdown (surprisingly) helped us discover the direction we want to take." It opened at Netil over the weekend.
And while Pollo Feliz, as the name suggests, focused on chicken as its hero dish, Sonora will be mostly beef-centric. The new menu features three beef tacos, all made with their signature flour tortillas. There's a barbacoa made with short rib and beef cheek, a carne con chile featuring chuck steak in a chile colorado sauce and a pulled beef taco in a charred chile verde sauce. If you're veggie, they have a range of cheese and bean quesadillas as well as a Nopales taco made with cactus leaf, refried beans, pico de gallo and queso.
If you'd like to try their food at home, you can also buy their tortillas and salsas online at ClickItLocal.
