What: Bosporus
In a nutshell: Dubai import by way of Turkey
Summing it all up: London gets the first UK outpost of this popular Dubai chain which promises an authentic Turkish experience.
The low-down
Well, this is ballsy. Central London isn't quite a ghost town, but from our walk through Chinatown yesterday it's still pretty low on footfall. Still, Dubai restaurant group GCS have decided they're still going ahead and opening a large new Turkish restaurant on Leicester Square (right beside the Empire).
There are already eight Bosporus restaurants in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Egypt. Soon they'll have a London spot that looks like it'll be an all-day opening, serving up Turkish breakfasts in the morning and moving through to steaks and kebabs in the evening.
There are going to be a few dishes on the menu that'll be exclusive to the London branch including:
- Girit Ezmesi - feta cheese, cracked pistachio, labneh, basil, garlic, mint, parsley & dill oil and garlic.
- Patlican Sourme - aubergine, slow baked onion & garlic, grilled kapya red pepper, spring onions, olive oil and coriander shoots.
- Lamb shoulder - slow cooked marinated lamb shoulder, caramelised pumpkin, suzme yogurt, parsley, roasted hazelnuts and isot chilli.
As to how authentic it'll be, given what great Turkish restaurants we already have in London, they promise that "All of Bosporus’ restaurants are managed by passionate culinary professionals with Turkish roots and great knowledge about the foods that they will be serving you." So there's that...
