We're among many, many people who have a not-so-secret love of the Ikea meatballs. A trip to the store isn't the same without a plate of meatballs and chips and then taking home even more for the freezer. Just writing this is making us crave them right now. God, we love them.
But if you're vegan or vegetarian - the meatballs have been out of reach - until now. Because Ikea is about to launch the plant-based "meatball" (aka Plant Balls). They're created with ingredients that include yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion and apple. Designed to look and taste as close as possible to the original meatballs, they're also being created from sustainable sources.
They go on sale from 8 August - both in their bistros - £1.50 for 8 - and in the Swedish food hall - £2.75 for a 500g bag (while you'll have to wait until 26 October for them to launch in the restaurants). We think the queues to get into the car park on launch day might be a little longer than usual.
