What: Jake's Vegan Steaks
In a nutshell: Vegan fast food hits Holloway Road
Summing it all up: Having grown a huge fan base for their vegan Philly cheezesteaks, this plant-based street food trader has opened its first permanent spot on Holloway Road.
North London vegans or flexitarians after a bit of junk food goodness, should head for Jake's Vegan Steaks. The popular vegan street food trader has just opened the doors to their first permanent takeaway shop, on Holloway Road. And if you don't happen to be within walking (or delivering) distance, you can always head to The Horatia pub next door and eat in there.
The pillar of Jake's offering is the Philly Cheezesteak - a combo of shredded BBQ seitan ‘steak’, slathered with cheeze whizz sauce and served up with smokey caramelised onions, fire roasted peppers, sriracha ‘mayo’ and sweet mustard on vegan hot dog rolls.
They also do a trio of fries options - cheezesteak loaded, truffle and thyme-seasoned skin-on with white truffle oil and 'mayo'.
What's new to the menu is their Naughty Fry Up - a weekend special they recommend "to start the weekend right and/or cure hangovers". It features shredded Cheezesteak with thyme fries, cheezy beans, and crunchy hash browns, covered in cheeze whizz sauce and will be served from 12pm to 4pm every weekend either to takeaway or eat in the pub.
