In a nutshell: Top chef comes to Bermondsey
Summing it all up: Duck & Waffle's former executive chef Tom Cenci comes to Bermondsey to launch Loyal Tavern, taking over from Village East (but run by the same group). There will be seasonal menus - and cheese toasties for late-night snacks.
It's all change at Village East in Bermondsey. Run by Adam White of House Café Company (which also runs Rail House Cafe and Riding House Cafe), it's about to be transformed into The Loyal Tavern. That also sees ex Duck & Waffle Tom Cenci come aboard as Executive Chef.
It'll be a complete revamp of Village East, starting with the menu, which will be "the best of seasonal British produce in the relaxed neighbourhood environment." The menu will be produce-led with sustainable ingredients, including:
- Cornish mackerel with apple, pine nut and truffle
- Venison tartar with beef dripping
- Daily specials that include rib of retired dairy cow or gurnard with crab bisque, carrot and seaweed.
In charge of the bar is Antonio Del Monte (who comes from The Ned) and the wine list is getting a revamp with a new list of natural, new world British and international wines to pair with the menu. They'll also have wine flights, which you can have with or without the food - in 50ml, 175ml, 500ml measures. There will also be a new cocktail list with sharing punch bowls being added.

We strongly believe in the quality of produce that we use and where it comes from, with simple, rustic comfort food we want it to be a local restaurant that not only Bermondsey is proud of but London too.
Expect a completely new look in line with the launch, and finally, they'll also be running "LOYAL Up Late". That's because of their new late-night closing time of 1.30am and when cheese toasties are on the menu - the perfect late-night snack, in our opinion.
