A Hot Dinners exclusive
We only recently revisited the Guinea Grill ourselves to remind us why this Young's pub is one of London's best steak restaurants (not to mention top Mayfair pub). And now it looks like there will be another reason to head there - it's launching a breakfast that it describes as "unlike any other".
Clearly, that's fighting talk, but a quick look at the menu shows that it really is something else. Just don't expect any avocado.
First up, is the grill section of the menu. Everything on here comes with grilled tomato, field mushroom, fried egg, smoked streaky bacon and Lincolnshire sausage. But that's just the start. Kicking things off is the obligatory full English grill (with double sausage, black pudding, haggis, hash browns, baked beans for £24). There's also a lamb grill (lamb cutlet, lamb rib, devilled kidneys - £26) and a beef grill (5oz beef fillet, ox heart, calves' liver) along with a mix of the two. Or you could opt for a 16oz ribeye or sirloin on the bone if you still really want one of The Guinea's steaks or choose the smoked bacon chops (thick cut smoked pork loin on the bone with black pudding - £28).
And if the standard grill dishes on their own aren't enough - there are 15 sides that you can add. They include eggs, sausage, buttermilk crumpet, baked beans, hash brown, bubble and squeak and more.
But even that is barely scratching the surface of their new breakfast offering - as there's a whole other section of starters and mains, including:
- Classic prawn cocktail
- French toast custard-soaked brioche, clotted cream, berries
- Eggs Benedict (or Florentine or Royale)
- Omelettes - Oven baked omelette with hollandaise and crème fraiche - also served as Omelette Arnold Bennet or with Spiced crab and crayfish
- Buttermilk crumpets served with smoked salmon, streaky bacon or wild mushrooms
- Kedgeree - Smoked cod loin, spiced rice and peas, poached egg
- Hangtown fry - baked omelette with breaded oysters, smoked bacon, herb crème fraiche
There's also a set menu of a choice of starter with main, lamb, bacon or full English grill for £32. And yes, if you need a bucks fizz or a Bloody Mary with all that - they will, of course, be available too. All in all, it sounds like a truly epic breakfast menu - you might just need a bit of lie-down again afterwards.
