Chinese Laundry heads to Brockley for a 3-month pop-up

Chinese Laundry heads to Brockley for a 3-month pop-up

If you've been missing Chinese Laundry since they closed in Islington (and also their Highbury and Dalston residencies) another chance is incoming. They're the latest to take over the "No 10 Coulgate" pop-up space (Mother Flipper were the latest residency) and they'll be staying there for three whole months.

As before, it'll be run by chefs Peiran Gong and Tongtong Ren, who will be serving up dishes both remembered from their childhood and from travels through China, all using British ingredients. Here's what they say:

We are turning No10 Coulgate into a small, personal dining room in our local neighbourhood, where we’ll offer a table of dishes we put together without a fixed menu. This place will allow us to do more than what we can ever before, just because it’s small - which means more flexibility on what we can offer.

If we take a look at their previous menus, here are the kinds of dishes they've been offering recently:

  • Pork, squid & Chinese chive dumplings, ink sesame paste, chilli & spring onion ash.
  • Drunken raw ‘prawn toast’, aubergine, Fu Ru chicken liver, Chinese date & tamarind.
  • Chilli cold beef and charred pepper wraps
  • Kung Pao prawns, squid & asparagus
  • Five spice offal, daikon, and gluten ball, with sweet chilli sauce on the side.

Yes, all that sounds pretty great - but expect newer dishes on the ever-changing No 10 menu too. And it'll be £35 a head for the set menu of the night.

Alongside this, there will be a low-intervention wine list from Salthouse Bottles, which is only just over the road from them and who also own the restaurant. They'll also do BYO on more wines from the Salthouse shop.
