Summing it all up: The Stratford Brasserie second restaurant to be announced in the fancy The Stratford building. It's an all-day brasserie that should have a very impressive look - coupled with an enviable outside space.
The low-down
We already know about Patrick Powell's Allegra restaurant that's opening at The Stratford (previously known as Manhattan Loft Gardens), but that's not the only restaurant opening in the new 42 storey building in Stratford. There will also be The Stratford Brasserie just at the building's entrance on the ground floor.
As with the rest of the building, it comes from Harry Handelsman, the man responsible for both the St Pancras hotel renovation and Chiltern Firehouse (with Andre Balazs). The restaurant here is run by Ben Harrington, most recently at Soho House. As you'd expect, it's an all-day menu, focusing on sharing dishes, including:
- Homemade crumpets and Acai bowls (£10) for breakfast.
- Snacks including grilled romero pepper with salsa verde & sourdough and Taramasalata with radish and seaweed salt.
- Chopped Cornish bream, smoked crème fraîche, pickled celery and rye (£9)
- Preserved lemon and oregano whole roasted chicken (£38),
- Grilled peach bake alaska (£14 for 2).
Plus there will be pizzas from their outdoor wood oven as well as schnitzel, risotto and burgers.
And the room itself promises to look impressive, with a triple-height space that's designed by Space Copenhagen (the team behind NOMA and 11 Howard in New York) and there will be plenty of outside eating and drinking too, heated in the colder months, sheltered by a pergola and with its own outside bar.
