What: FishWorks
In a nutshell: A new fishmonger and restaurant from the FishWorks team.
Summing it all up: This will be FishWorks’ third site - this time in Covent Garden - offering fresh fish to take home and a whole host of dishes to eat in at the restaurant.
The low-down
FishWorks, which currently has sites in Mayfair and Marylebone, is opening a third. Located on Catherine Street in Covent Garden, the new opening will follow a similar format with a wet fish counter for customers looking to buy fish to take home, plus a restaurant where you can have the chefs do all the hard work for you.
All the fish is sourced from Brixham and is bought up to the restaurant daily. The menus for those eating will be a mix of permanent favourites – think a tiered platter of fruits de mer – plus seasonal dishes that will change depending on what’s available. For their spring launch we can expect the likes of spicy blackened Cornish mackerel with chargrilled chicory, tenderstem broccoli and cauliflower puree. Of course, if you just want to pick out something from the daily catch at the counter, the chefs will cook it up for you however you like.
Tom Crowley, CEO of Fishworks commented on the launch:
We've been looking to add another restaurant to our collection for a while now but it's really just been a case of being patient until the ideal location became available. Catherine Street is perfect for us because of its prime location for tourists and theatregoers as well as Covent Garden residents who want to dine out on the freshest fish, sometimes taking some home.
A first for the Covent Garden site will be a dedicated oyster bar, meaning you can happily just pop in for a few oysters and a glass of fizz (and why not). Perhaps unsurprisingly, given its location, there’s also going to be a set lunch menu, a pre-theatre menu, and a bottomless prosecco brunch on Sundays.
