Taipei sushi master Shogo Amamoto opens Sushi Amamoto in London, replacing Michelin-starred Taku in Mayfair

Sushi Amamoto replaces Michelin-starred Taku in Mayfair, but the same team is in charge

It seems that everyone is on the rebrand train at the moment, with a lot of big relaunches in London. The latest is in Mayfair and sees omakase restaurant Taku being relaunched as Sushi Amamoto.

That sees the restaurant being taken over by chef Shogo Amamoto, whose Sushi Amamoto restaurant in Taipei is a big deal with two Michelin stars, a year-long waiting list and an insane $2000 menu. Here in London he's retaining the team that was previously leading Taku, including head chef Jongho Park.

As for what to expect from the new place, it sounds like a similar affair to before, with two omakase offerings at either £180 for 17 coursesor £380 for a whopping 22 courses. Of course, that's way less than his Taipei place would cost you.

Taku won a Michelin star in 2023 and retained it even in the 2026 awards, although the restaurant listing itself has since been removed. Given it's retained the same chef and team, we'd say this is highly likely to get that star back next year.
