Mao Chow finds a permanent Hackney place for its vegan Chinese food

maochow

What: Mao Chow

In a nutshell: A permanent spot for vegan Chinese pop-up Mao Chow

Summing it all up: This 12 seat noodle bar in Hackney will be serving up meat-free Chinese classics

The low-down

After a successful pop up at Dalston cocktail bar, Pamela, Mao Chow are moving into permanent digs. Located on Mare Street just off London Fields, the space is going to be pretty tiny, with just 12 seats for guests to sit up at the noodle bar.

Mao Chow is London’s first all vegan Chinese spot, a bold move for a cuisine so heavily associated with pork and other meats. But this being Hackney in 2019 we think it should go down very well and, if reports from the Pamela residency is anything to go by, the food is very well rated.

On the menu at the new place we can expect:

  • Smacked Cucumber Salad with Black Vinegar, Sesame Oil and Crushed Garlic
  • Oyster Mushroom Bing - Sesame Flatbread Sandwich with Cumin Grilled Oyster Mushrooms
  • Chongqing Noodles in a Spicy Aromatic Sauce with Chickpeas and Veg

Expect it to be pretty popular, with no reservations and walk-ins only. It’s also worth noting that it will only accept card payments.
