It's been well over two years since we wrote our original story about The Upper Place Food Hall opening in Holloway. Back then a range of licensing issues put the kibosh on the whole endeavour and it ended up being mothballed.
But now, rather under the radar, the hall suddenly opened up last weekend for business again. Some of the original traders we first talked about are back again, with a few new faces.
- Dez Amore - Italian burger flippers with toppings like Chianti-caramelised onions and Gorgonzola.
- Smoketeers - barbecue platters of brisket, chicken and sausage
- StakeHAUS - British beef steaks
- Pasta Mood - need to know dish is their Deep-fried Tortellini Bolognesi
- Paneria - Roman based, award-winning pizzeria
There are also going to be two bars in the hall. Rolling Grapes will be a wine bar serving up plenty by both the glass and bottle. And the main bar in the hall will be run by The Italian Job.
With room for 130 diners, plus private bookable spaces for gatherings and meetings, this sounds like a very decent addition to the area. We just hope that the many great food traders on the market's ground floor aren't forgotten. If you're heading to the upstairs food hall, make sure you also check out the likes of Sanjuu for sushi, Juanchos for its amazing Colombian food and Proper Tacos (the name says it all) downstairs.
