Chef T is crowdfunding to reopen Paradise Cove in Battersea

The past few years have been quite the rollercoaster for restaurateur and chef Tarell Mcintosh (Chef T). Having survived the pandemic his restaurant Paradise Cove (formerly known as Sugercane) was robbed and then he was eventually forced to call it quits, closing it for good in January.

It was a sorry end for the Caribbean restaurant that received a glowing review from Jay Rayner and which was much loved by his many regulars.

The good news is that Chef T is back. He's now running a crowdfunding for a brand new place in Battersea. The chef is hoping to reopen Paradise Cove in The Queens Arms pub which closed its own doors last year.

"We simply believe that if everyone helps," says Chef T, "we can again push the needle forward to something amazing for the community."

Three weeks into the crowdfunding they're already nearly at halfway point. Contributors include chef and fellow restaurateur Jackson Boxer who said: "I'm a huge fan of Tee's delicious food, but more than anything the ethos of the beautiful little restaurant...from his work training and employing former care leavers (as one himself), to his extensive work with local schools (as a former teacher), to his provision of food to children on free school meals, he offers a vision of a restaurant's place at the heart of its community, and remains an inspiration to me."
