If you're around in Brixton at the weekend, you might want to swing by the market for a new stall that's opening up this Saturday.
London French Dip will serve up LA-style meat sandwiches in baguettes which have been dipped in the roasting juices. It's run by food journalist Rosie Birkett and her friend Andrew Dolleymore who'll be using quality Scotch beef (PGI) supplied by nearby Clapham butchers Moen and Sons and bespoke baguettes baked for them by Herne Hill's Kindred Bakery.
The idea for the stall came from a visit Rosie made to Los Angeles - where the gourmet sandwich originates. "I went to Philippe's while in Los Angeles and was blown away by the flavour and simplicity of the dipped sandwiches. As someone who grew up wiping the roasting tin from my mum's legendary Sunday lunches with bread, it really struck a chord with me. I was craving them when I got back to London couldn't find them anywhere, so thought I'd do them myself. Brixton was the natural choice for the stall, as it's my neighbourhood and a mecca for great ingredients."
London French Dip will be at Brixton Market this Saturday from 10am till 5pm and then on 19th May. Follow Rosie on @RosieFoodie to find out future dates.
