Lorne

Modern European | Westminster, Strand, Victoria

With an ex-sommelier from River Cafe and a chef from Brawn, visitors to Lorne should expect a particularly good wine list and a Modern British seasonal menu to match with it. It's deservedly rated as one of the best restaurants in Victoria.

"I was so happy with it all that I ordered pudding. And I never order pudding. My reward was a wonderful lemon posset, tart and creamy, with a kind of blueberry compote over it, crushed pistachios all green and aromatic and shards of smashed meringue." READ REVIEW

"There is no doubt that Lorne is trying to offer a singular experience for this part of town: high-end yet comfortable, reassuring yet out of the ordinary. The couple behind it, chef Peter Hall and sommelier Kate Exton, both have serious form – at Mayfair’s The Square and The River Café. There is obvious talent here and they deserve to succeed." "It’s a soothing place to be, Lorne, belying its almost-Victoria-station location, the design simple and clean, with trailing pot plants, pale wood and cool marble. It could be mistaken for a slightly worthy temple to clean eating, if it weren’t for that sybaritic, generous and joyous wine list, which we hit a bit too enthusiastically..." READ REVIEW

"To conquer Wilton Road, Lorne needs to get all of it right. This food was fussy, not to say wussy, lacking in guts, not the accompaniment needed by the singing wine list." READ REVIEW
