Trinity's Adam Byatt to open Bistro Union in Clapham

Trinity's Adam Byatt to open Bistro Union in ClaphamAdam Byatt's Trinity restaurant in Clapham is a South London favourite, and he's now expanding to nearby Abbeville Road with Bistro Union.

The kitchen will be run by head Chef Karl Goward. He's worked at St John Bread and Wine from its launch and before that in NYC at Soho House and the hugely popular and very trendy (but quite small) Prune. The Bistro Union menu will have a strong focus on British food so you can expect dishes like beer and onion soup or allotment minestrone for starters and cottage pie, guineau fowl kiev or steak and chips with mushroom ketchup for mains.

On top of that, there will be a range of snacks available at the bar all day long and you'll also be able to pop in for a traditional afternoon tea.

Again, drinks are of a very English variety, with beer by Freedom, cider from Orchard Pig and spirits from Sipsmith. And in a move we particularly like the sound of, to encourage regulars coming back again customers will be able to purchase bottles of spirits on site and store them in lockers above the bar for the next time they pop in.

The restaurant itself is going for a "British thrift" approach with plenty of reclaimed furniture and the bar is covered in London Underground tiles.  Seating will vary throughout with leather banquettes at the back, plenty of stools at the bar and an outside space in case it ever gets warm again.

Bistro Union opens on 10 February 2012 and is taking bookings now on 020 7042 6400.
