Tongue n Cheeks begin long term residency at the Joker in Islington

Tongue n Cheeks begin long term residency at the Joker in IslingtonTongue 'n Cheek is the latest street food trader to grow roots as they officially begin their long term residency (after a soft launch period) at Islington's new pub the Joker with a launch party this Saturday.

There, you can certainly expect burgers which include the Belly connection - "dry aged beef patty, braised pork belly, gorgonzola, pimienton mayo, pickled red onions, gem lettuce" and the Cheesy Deluxe, with their "homemade British melting cheese". Plus there are Philly cheeseteaks "dry aged native breed chuck eye steak, red onions, peppers, spicy chimichurri and cheese served in a soft sub" and rosemary fries on the side. There's also an alleged “Healthy” Salad which is heavy on the beef and a little less so on the leaves. Our kind of salad then.

On Sundays, they'll have an impressive sounding Italian roast featuring (among other things):

  • Picchiapò - 57 days dry-aged Dexter brisket shredded and cooked with cherry tomatoes, onions and parsley, served on creamy polenta for £7
  • Porchetta alla Romana - Old Spot rare breed pork belly and its loin roasted and served with roast potatoes, cime di rapa, roasted beetroots, Jerusalem artichokes and a fennel and blood orange salad for £15
  • Guancie di merluzzo alla marinaraResponsibly sourced cod cheeks cooked with cherry tomatoes, black olives and capers, served with steamed potatoes, grilled Belgian endive and fennel and cavalo nero for £14
  • Fave e cicoria - Broadbean purée topped with braised Belgian endive and cranberries, served with burrata cheese on organic toasted sourdough for £13

For drinks, they're joining up with Dan and Seanan from The Joker, who will have cocktails using homemade infusions and pints of locally-brewed craft beer from The Laine Brewery in Hackney.

It all looks to be going swimmingly in fact for Tongue 'n' Cheek who have just been shortlisted in the BBC's Food & Farming Awards for Best Street Food or Takeaway.

Tongue 'n Cheek is the "pop up kitchen" at the Joker at 58 Penton Street, Angel, London N1 9PZ now and their launch party is on Saturday March 1 from 8 till late. For more information, follow them on Twitter @tonguencheeks.
