Peg and Patriot opening at the Town Hall hotel in Bethnal Green

Peg and Patroit opening at the Town Hall hotel in Bethnal GreenIt already has an upcoming restaurant with backing from Jason Atherton and now the just-announced bar, Peg and Patriot, sounds pretty special too.

It's coming from Matt Whiley who's already had success as one half of The Talented Mr Fox at One Leicester Street (which is a sister hotel of the Town Hall). His background in cocktails is impressive - having been a founder member of Fluid Movement who were responsible for ground-breaking bars Purl and Worship Street Whistling Shop.

His cocktails at One Leicester Street started out as part of a residency but proved super popular. They were particularly unique creations and that style looks set to continue at Peg + Patriot with cocktails promised like the "Salt Beef Sazerac" - salt beef beigal cognac, absinthe, sugar and bitters and "Marmite Vodka Martini" with P+P Marmite vodka served wet with house made dry vermouth. Maybe his Bloody Mary will make an appearance too - that has vodka distilled with pig's blood and bacon powder around the glass rim.

They'll be making three different styles of gin on site, which will include Moonshine Kid Dog’s Nose, a hop gin, as well as a Lisle Street Gin (jasmine and currant) which also turned up at One Leicester Street.

There will be a separate bar menu too - provided by the main restaurant's Executive Chef Lee Westcott and designed to match the drinks menu. As soon as we have details of that, we'll update this story.

Peg and Patriot opens in April at the Town Hall  Hotel, Patriot Square, Bethnal Green, London E2 9NF. For more information, follow them on Twitter @pegpatriot
