It was hard for us to focus on the rest of the food offering at new Mayfair cocktail bar The Bar at Bellamy's once we'd seen the immortal words 'Foie Gras toasties'. Now we know that's not for everyone but if you are a fan of indecently rich food, we can't think of many better dishes to enjoy.
The new bar sits adjacent to the French Brasserie Bellamy's on Bruton Place and takes over the space that was once their shop selling French produce. The bar menu's been worked up by Bellamy's Head Chef Stephane Pacoud, who trained with Pierre Koffmann at La Tante Claire followed by 12 years at Annabel’s. So there'll be oysters, shellfish cocktails, a range of toasties and other lovely stuff.
Prices range from £5.50 for a Welsh Rarebit to £9.50 for smoked eel mousse and £12.50 for a half dozen rock oysters. Toasted sandwiches start at £8 for goats cheese and honey rising to £12.50 for the Foie Gras Au Sel.
All cocktails are £10 which is, frankly, a bargain for Mayfair. It's a pretty classic list with a Bellini, Martini, Mimosa and Old Fashioned on the list. 13 wines are served by the glass or you can choose from the full wine list if you prefer.
The Bar at Bellamy's is now open at 18 Bruton Place, London W1J 6LY. Opening hourse are Monday to Saturday from 6pm
