With the much-delayed Savoy hotel launch getting closer, all eyes are now on Gordon Ramsay to see what he can pull off for the formerly much-loved Savoy Grill.
It's fair to say that the opening of Ramsay's last restaurant, Petrus, did really not generate a huge amount of interest outside of the traditional restaurant press. Ramsay was, allegedly, not even in the country for the launch day and while that launch was still smooth, the restaurant itself didn't really excite the critics. This was in stark contrast to Daniel Boulud's opening of Bar Boulud London which was a huge success, much of it due to Boulud's presence during the launch period.
But it seems that Ramsay is doing things differently this time around, having just announced an open day for the Savoy Grill. Everything from Sous Chef and Head Waiter to Glass Polisher is on offer - there really is something for everyone. So if you fancy being a part of the new restaurant, just go to York and Albany this Thursday with CV in hand.
It's certainly an interesting and unexpected way to go, is bound to get him few column inches and is possibly an early indication of a more hands-on approach for the Savoy Grill launch. Whether Ramsay himself will be there to praise or berate in Hell's Kitchen/ F Word style has not been announced, but we'd be very surprised if he didn't put in an appearance.
