McDonalds trial their new signature burgers in London - we went to try them out

mcdonalds

McDonalds are having a go with a new signature range of upmarket burgers and half of the places chosen nationwide to trial it are in London. The three burger collection was put together by the company's Chefs Council which apparently includes chefs who've worked for both Michelin starred restaurants and have cooked for international royalty.

The three burgers from the range (which cost £4,89) being showcased at the trial are:

  • The Classic - patty with Beechwood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, wholegrain mustard mayo, ketchup, Batavia lettuce and red onion, all in a Brioche style bun
  • The BBQ - patty with BBQ sauce, coleslaw, red onion, Batavia lettuce, Beechwood smoked bacon and cheddar cheese, all in a Brioche style bun
  • The Spicy - patty with Jalapeño slices, Pepper Jack cheese, Batavia lettuce, Mayo and a spicy relish, all in a Brioche style bun.

So what are they actually like? We headed for the Haringey Drive Thru today to test the Classic, to see if we'd swap it out for our longstanding Maccy D order, the quarterpounder with cheese. The first thing you'll notice, aside from the black packaging is the shiny brioche bun and the fact that the burger is considerably thicker than usual. But we found ours to be incredibly dry, which wasn't helped by the fact that it had been cooked to within an inch of its life with one, slightly burned side. Our verdict? They'll have to do better than this.

You can find McDonalds Signature Collection at the following McDonalds - Barnet, North Finchley, Haringey, Walthamstow, Barkingside, Swiss Cottage, Cambridge Circus, Cannon St, Bow, Wandsworth Drive Thru, Hayes, Balham and the Powis Street and Church Street Drive Thru - both in Woolwich.
