Gordon Ramsay's US swearathon riles Ofcom

A viewer who contacted Ofcom to complain about Gordon's Ramsay's effing and blinding on the TV programme Hell's Kitchen USA has had their complaint upheld. The viewer apparently contacted the broadcast authority after El Gordo used the word "fuck" a terrible/incredible (delete as you feel apropriate) 47 times in one programme - and 18 times in the first eleven minutes of the show.

We can't quite believe that anyone could be either shocked or surprised, given that Ramsay isn't exactly known for his delicate turn of phrase, but apparently Ofcom ruled that given so many youngsters watch the show, the swearing had 'the potential to cause considerable offence'.

ITV execs defended the chef saying; 'The essence of the show is to place them in a deliberately high-pressured environment, where conflict with each other and Chef Ramsey [sic] is commonplace' and that 'the word “fuck” and its derivatives are used regularly not only by Gordon but also by many of the contestants, as a standard part of their vocabulary and mode of expression.'
