Former Galvin chef opens new bistro Bar Battu in the city

City oenophiles will have a new watering hole on their hands when Bar Battu opens on Gresham Street in October. Occupying the site that was formerly Molloy’s, this wine bar and bistro will have a ground floor wine bar with a dining room for 80 and an upstairs dining area for 40.

Head chef will be Sydney Aldridge who’s been at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe and also the Hoxton Hotel and Terminus in the City. As for the food, city diners can expect a very gallic menu with snail, ox cheek and bavette with shallots and bone marrow.

There’ll be around 100 wines on Bar Battu’s list – mostly French – and at least 20 of these will be available by the glass.

Bar Battu will be at 48 Gresham Street and is expected to open in early October 2010.
