Bistrotheque to open Shrimpy's at the Filling Station at King's Cross

There's been a lot of low-level rumbling about the new restaurant opening by Bistrotheque round the back of King's Cross. So Hot Dinners did some digging to find out what you could expect from Shrimpy's.

First off, it's housed in a former petrol station which is currently being given a design overhaul by London architecture firm Carmody Groarke who built the temporary pavilion that Bistrotheque had over at Westfield Stratford in the summer of 2010. So the exterior's going to look something like a 1950s West Coast gas station while the interior will feature works by artists Donald Urquhart and Jonathan Trayte.

On the food front Chef Director Tom Collins has been taking trips to the Americas for inspiration and reinterpreting recipes to come up with dishes such as Fried Chicken with Humita, Peruvian Ceviche and a Pineapple Stack.

Menus released show starters of grilled cheese and pimento sandwich (£4.50) tuna tostada (£7) and mains of soft shell crab burger (£16) or fried chicken with sweetcorn and red pepper polenta (£16) and Lomo with chimichurri (£17.50). Desserts include a chocolate and pistachio sundae (£6.50) and pineapple crisps with marscarpone, raspberries and mint (£7)

Cocktails by Bistrotheque's co-owner David Waddington will apparently reference "nights spent by the pool in Palm Springs and hot, breezy days in LA" so you'll find the Blue Rinse, Haberno Margarita and Chilli Limeaid.

Shrimpy's will open at The Filling Station on York Way on Thursday 24th May. To make a reservation go to http://www.shrimpys.co.uk/. It'll open daily from 11:00 to 22:30 (23:00 Fri & Sat).

Shrimpy's, Kings Cross Filling Station, Goods Way, London, N1C 4UR Tel: 020 8880 6111.
