2009 looks to be an annus mirabilis for Angela Hartnett, as her Mayfair restaurant Murano gets voted Best Newcomer by restaurant-goers in the 2010 edition of Harden's London Restaurants which is published today. It's another goose feather in her cap for Hartnett, who just last month, picked up the prestigious Catey Award for Top Chef. Murano is also shortlisted in the 2009 Time Out Awards.
Over 8000 Harden contributors voted in categories ranging from Most Romantic to Most Disappointing Cooking. However, while Hartnett is presumably cracking open the fizz tonight, her employer Gordon Ramsay may be drowning his sorrows as several of his restaurants picked up gongs for less prestigious categories such as Disappointing Cooking and Most Overpriced Restaurant.
Elsewhere across the city, another Ramsay protegee Marcus Wareing will no doubt be pleased with winning Best Top Restaurant for the second year running. Other restaurants enjoying long-standing good favour with Harden's include Chez Bruce which was Londoners' favourite restaurant for the fifth consecutive year and Pimlico's Le Poule au Pot which this year celebrates 14 years in a row as this city's most romantic resturant.
