Chef Drew Snaith and manager Hannah Kowalski recently took over what was Pidgin, turning it into the critically rated SESTA. Now Drew has agreed to share his favourite food and drink spots close to where he lives in Walthamstow.
Etles
235 Hoe St, London E17 9PP
Probably the first restaurant I actually ever went to in Walthamstow, long before I lived here. Reliably delicious and comforting cooking. This is one of my favourite places to dine solo as it's so low key and just feels like you are in someone's living room. I always order the lamb chochure soup, kidney skewers and beef traditional Laghman noodles.
Gunes
328 Hoe St, London E17 9PX
I first went to Gunes just after moving in and it turned out to be exactly what was needed. The Iskender Kebab was absolutely incredible and the portion very generous. The staff are extremely welcoming and make you feel at home.
Sodo
21 Hatherley Mews, London E17 4QP
Fantastic pizza that straddles the right sides of both - a bit silly and properly made. The Wickerman is one of my favourite pizzas of all time. The fermentation on the dough is just right in my opinion, and has plenty of flavour, without being too sour.
Green Area Cafe
261 Hoe St, London E17 9PT
A cute little coffee spot with friendly service and a delightful cup of coffee. I like that they offer two blends that regularly change so you can always try something new.
Whole Beast at Exale Brewery
Unit 2C uplands business park, London E17 5QJ
Newly relocated to Walthamstow these guys are absolutely incredible at what they do. The Cheeseburger quite rightly gets all the attention, but everything they serve is utterly delicious. I'm particularly partial to the green chorizo tacos.
