Ikea have opened a standalone restaurant in Hammersmith

If the best thing about a visit to Ikea is a trip to the restaurant for meatballs (we know it is for us), then this news is for you. They've just launched a standalone Ikea restaurant in Hammersmith. They've taken over what was a Wasabi that just happened to be right next door to the Ikea shop in Hammersmith and decked it out in Ikea furniture.

It's very much a fast-food operation - order on screens, pick up at the counter. To be honest, we haven't been in an Ikea since they closed at Tottenham, so this may be how they do things in the main shops these days.

As for the menu, it's led by those meatballs with mash, cream sauce, peas and lingonberry jam which right now comes in at a very reasonable £5.50. They'll also have pasta, fish and chips and cooked breakfasts on the menu.

If Ikea meatballs still aren't enough to make you head over to Hammersmith, we'd be very surprised if this isn't exactly the same model they unveil when the Oxford Circus Ikea opens in 2025. So you have that to look forward to next year. In the meantime, just enjoy them trolling Liam Gallagher.
