For years, Sebastian Vince's Breadstall has been one of the most popular pizza places in Battersea and he's spent all that time operating out of a (very big) stall on Northcote Road. However, he's finally getting ready to expand in a very big way as Breadstall is coming to Soho. It'll be opening on Berwick Street (near the market).
Breadstall is known for its enormous biga slow-fermented sourdough Neapolitan pizzas and, particularly useful for wandering around Soho, the pizzas are also available by the slice. Most importantly, on that front, there's going to be a big open window where you can buy pizza slices from the street.
The big difference from their Battersea spot is that there will be space to eat inside (with room for about 70 people) and there's even a space downstairs that they're calling the "dough bar". That's essentially more seating downstairs where you'll be able to watch them preparing the dough and, if you've got a lot of time to spare, watch it proving.
As for the kinds of pizzas you can expect, alongside the traditional margherita and pepperoni pizzas, options like
- Fennel pork sausage - Fennel pork sausage, friarielli, confit tomato, red onions and mozzarella.
- All the meats - Fennel sausage, honey roast ham, pepperoni, spianata and beef ragu
- Beef ragu with mushrooms, aged mozzarella and red onions
- Goat's cheese and roasted veg - Hamish Jonston chevre, grilled courgette, kale, red onions, confit tomato and grilled aubergines.
Breadstall's been a massive hit in Battersea and London really needs a great pizza-by-the-slice operation in the centre of town. This sounds like it'll more than fit the bill.
