We're a bit slow to this, as Oybar has been open in Balham for almost a month, but the duo behind this new oyster bar are already working on their second place. Owners Evgeniy and Catriona are gearing up for a Wimbledon opening later this year.
As the name suggests, oysters are the main thrust of the menu with options available depending on the season. They can be enjoyed as an Oy shot, with a shot of vodka or a Bloody Mary, or you can put together bundles which include a glass or carafe of wine.
Other options on the enticing menu include:
- Mushroom croquettes
- Garlic snails
- Seafood platter - smoked salmon, crevettes, oysters and crab salad
- Navarin of lamb with mash
On the wine front, they have white, red and rosé on tap. And they've gathered together the wine options in three handy categories - casual suppers, enthusiast and connoisseur with prices to match at £25, £45 and £90. "The idea was to really get people to try lots of wines and food that they can enjoy together," says Catriona.
