Restaurant duo George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev appear to be vying for the title of busiest restaurateurs in London. Having only very recently opened the hugely successful Lita and with places like Goodman, Wild and Belvedere under their belts, just to name a few, they're now getting ready to open Fantomas in Chelsea (taking over the old 28-50 Chelsea spot on the King's Road).
Their latest project sees the pair join forces with chef Chris Denney who most recently ran the critically well-received West London restaurants 108 Garage and Fiend. And while their other restaurants have focused perhaps more on general vibes, hitting that sweet spot between great food and general merriment-making, this one says that the pass "is where the real spotlight will fall at Fantomas".
The menu has been billed as "Modern European" and a quick look at Chris Denney's Instagram feed should give you an idea of what's coming to the restaurant. An early look at the menu includes dishes like:
- Roscoff onion with sheep’s curd, landcress, sumac
- Pumpkin & almond agnolotti with brown butter, provolone, sage crumb
- Crispy veal sweetbreads with bulgogi & green onion
- Iberico belly with quince, lime, jalapeno
On top of that, there are some more traditional dishes like spatchcock chicken with fermented red pepper sauce or bone-in fillet of beef with Peppercorn Sauce.
There will of course be some great cocktails on the restaurant's list (we were very impressed with our recent ones at Lita) with promised drinks including a miso old fashioned and a Pandan ice tea with coconut oil-washed rum. You should expect an extensive wine list too.
As for the place itself, in addition to the main restaurant, there's a private room for 16 which has its own courtyard. So expect that to be busy in the run-up to Christmas.
