Islington is starting to do very well indeed when it comes to great bakeries. We already have Jolene and Pophams, Quince opened only a couple of months ago and now there's the arrival of Sourdough Sophia, who's just unveiled her second bakery, on Essex Road.
Taking over what used to be a Costa Coffee, this is clearly a great improvement. It's a decent-sized building too, with plenty of space inside for lingering with your pastries as well as a good-sized terrace outside. As for what to expect inside, there will be plenty of sourdough loaves, of course, including in tin and baguette form. You can also expect pastries from croissants to seasonal danishes and cruffins.
And, we say this from personal experience, you'll definitely want to get one of the amazingly good cereal milk cookies.
