Just when you thought the city couldn't possibly fit any more upmarket hotels, another new opening is on the horizon. This time it's the turn of boutique hotel brand Hyde, themselves part of Ennismore, the people behind the Hoxton hotels. They're opening Hyde London City on Old Bailey.
It's not the first time that this particular building has been a hotel. Originally built in 1874 as the Spiers & Pond Hotel it was apparently the first hotel in the country to feature electric lighting. Exactly 150 years later, we're going to assume that lighting will be a standard feature in building's latest iteration, which will have 110 bedrooms.
The news from a restaurant perspective is that it'll feature a modern Turkish restaurant. It seems to be something of an open secret that a named chef with a track record of Turkish restaurants in London will be taking the reins. We can't say who right now, but watch this space. On top of that, or rather underneath, there will also be a basement speakeasy bar.
Expect more details on the eating and drinking soon - we'll update this piece as soon as we get them.
