Lavo Ristorante heads to London from LA with its giant wagyu meatballs

Is there room for another glitzy Italian restaurant in London? We ask because news reaches us of an American import, LAVO Ristorante, which is coming our way from America. It's part of the TAO Restaurant group which now also owns Hakkasan and Yauatcha, and this will be the group's first LAVO in Europe - they have several dotted across the states and one in Singapore.

The London restaurant will be part of the new West End hotel The BoTree which is getting ready to open just off Oxford Street this summer. Following in the culinary footsteps of the other LAVO restaurants, it'll serve up a coastal Italian menu.

As with a lot of Tao restaurants, this will be much more of a blingtastic affair than low-key trattoria. Key dishes it's known for in the States include:

  • "The Meatball" - a giant 1lb wagyu meatball with marinara sauce and whipped ricotta
  • Tagliatelle al Limone - served with sweet butter and kaluga caviar
  • Salt-baked sea bass for two.

That's all we know so far. But it's a fair guess that you can expect this to be rammed by celebs when it opens its doors.
