Revamped pub the Earl of Derby and Gengelly's are coming to New Cross

Revamped pub The Early of Denby and Gengelly's are coming to New Cross

With lots of news about pubs closing, it's always good news to hear of those getting a little more love. From Telegraph Hill, New Cross, news reaches us of such a promising pub overhaul.

The Earl of Derby is getting a proper restoration by a team who are looking to bring it back to its Victorian finest. The pub has been taken over by Parched, an independent group that also owns pubs like The White Horse in Peckham, The Roebuck in Borough and The Railway in Streatham.

In the kitchen, you'll find George Genn and Laurence Pengelly who were previously at Good as Gold in Brockley. They'll be in charge of the pub restaurant Gengelly's which they say will be focused on proper pies and chargrilled meats and fish alongside weekly specials and, of course, a Sunday roast, all with a focus on local and organic produce. We'll have more about that menu closer to the opening.

On top of the food and drink, they'll also have DJs at the weekend and a series of events are planned for their upstairs room.

A very promising pub for locals, then.
