London's hotel scene is seriously hot at the moment. The past 18 months have seen the opening of The Pensinsula, The OWO and 1 Mayfair and now the group behind Claridge's is getting ready to open a new hotel in Knightsbridge. The Emory will be the first brand-new London opening for them in over 50 years - the Berkeley opened its doors back in 1972.
The Emory was supposed to be opening in Shoreditch, but it's now found a home in Knightsbridge right next to another Maybourne hotel - The Berkeley.
The hotel should look very impressive, not least because each of its nine floors will have a different interior designer in charge. And, much like The Berkely beside it, The Emory will have a pretty amazing rooftop space. Sadly, that'll only be for hotel residents, as will the lower-ground pool.
As for the food, following on from his restaurants at another Maybourne hotel, The Connaught, Jean-Georges Vongerichten will be in charge. He'll be opening ABC Kitchens here - an amalgamation of all three of his ABC restaurants in New York. That means the menu will include dishes like:
- Crab toast with green chilli, dill and lemon aioli
- Crispy fish tacos served with aioli and cabbage-apple slaw
- Char-grilled beef tenderloin served with chimichurri and lime
The restaurant is being designed by French designer Rémi Tessier, who also did the Cedric Grolet patisserie at The Berkeley, and will feature artworks by Damien Hirst.

Also on the ground floor will be The Emory Bar - open in the morning for coffee and switching up to a bar later in the day with food from ABC Kitchens. The key part of that bar design is the covered courtyard space, which does look impressive. And giving you a reason to stay in the hotel, on the top floor is their rooftop bar, Bar 33, open only to hotel guests (and their friends).
