Trying to keep on top of what Harrods is doing food-wise is a tricky task. They do have a tendency to just throw open the doors on a new project without telling anyone. So their latest pop-up was open a week before we got wind of it.
Following hard upon the heels of their amazingly successful Dior Cafe pop-up over Christmas, they've now launched a new pop-up space with Louis Vuitton. It's all part of the fashion house's collaboration with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, who was responsible for those huge polka-dot immersive artworks at the Tate last year.
Now, not only are the artist's designs being projected on the Knightsbridge store's facade at night but they've opened a special patisserie counter as part of a pop-up on the ground floor. There's an animatronic robot of Kusama herself, plus a claw machine arcade game and £5k polka dot handbags on offer. But what you'll be interested in is the patisserie counter selling a variety of pastries decorated with the artist’s signature surrealist dots, including chocolate choux buns, primary coloured macarons and craquelin-coated éclairs filled with yuzu cream.
The good news is that, unlike the Dior cafe which was pretty much booked out from day one, there's no need to book with this new popup which is walk-in only.
